About the Artist

Claire Eva Emery, also known by her pseudonym Claire Creatrix, is an established glass artist based in Fremantle, Western Australia. Born in Far North Queensland in 1989, Claire comes from a long line of inspired artists, crafters, and art educators on both sides of her family. Her passion for art started at a very young age, with interests ranging from drawing, painting, woodwork, jewelry making, sewing, ceramics, and digital art. After completing two years of Art studies at Shenton College, Claire went on to study a Bachelor of Education (Art) at Edith Cowan University in 2007.

Claire has worked in several artistic jobs, including managing an Aboriginal Art Gallery and running a small art collective for local artists. However, it was during her employment at Perth Art Glass, commencing in 2017, that she fell in love with glass art and decided to pursue it as her primary medium. In 2019, Claire was featured in her first exhibition, Radical Visions, and sold every piece of work on display. This success encouraged her to start her own art business, Creatrix Studios (originally named Chromatix Glass Art).

Claire has now been an established glass artist for six years, specializing in the stained glass technique known as copper foiling or the “Tiffany” method. Claire designs and creates unique and intricate stained glass, mosaics, and kiln-formed glass for clients all over the world. Her inspiration comes from the natural world, with a particular focus on Australia's flora and fauna. Claire aims to capture the beauty of nature in her artwork and loves to incorporate organic elements, such as wood, into her designs. Her favorite styles can be described as nature-inspired, magical, bohemian, earthy, and whimsical.

Through her Etsy store and private commissions, Claire’s work has brightened homes in eight different countries, including the UK, South Africa, America, Canada, and several European countries. In addition to running her own business, Claire serves as a subcontractor and designer for Perth Art Glass, using Adobe Suite and Glass Eye to create stained and kiln-formed glass designs that can be found in homes throughout Western Australia.

Throughout her career, Claire has had many great opportunities, including restoring historical artwork. She has repaired Tiffany lamps, leadlights from historical buildings and churches, and local iconic pieces like the glass witches from the Witches' Cauldron, Subiaco. She has also designed, assembled, and installed large-scale public works, such as a mosaic triptych for the Syriac Orthodox Church in Wattle Grove (click here to see it), and 3-dimensional glass sculptures for Western Australia’s Blossom Festival. Claire is currently designing the new stained glass window for the Bunbury Anglican Cathedral.

Claire has also made a name for herself as a skilled glass art teacher and has a loyal following of students who appreciate her enthusiasm and encouraging teaching style. She is now sharing her passion for glass art with students all over Western Australia.

As an artist, Claire is always exploring new media techniques to expand her artistry. She is currently experimenting with electroplating, welding, and casting, adding new dimensions to her creative process. Claire's dedication to pushing the boundaries of her artistic expression has led her to set her sights on creating more sculptures and large-scale works, as well as expanding her skillset.
